Satellite orbits can be described by equations similar to those developed in 1609 by Johannes Kepler to describe the motion of planets around the sun. NORAD provides to the public the mathematical coefficients of these equations in a format called SGP4. It is available through various sources, including a NASA bulletin board on the Internet.
